Role
Upon returning back to the Apple Inc. from NeXT, Steve’s first priority was to keep the whole business simple by making it clean and extremely accountable. The corporate culture that Steve Jobs pursued in his company demonstrates the traits of the role culture, as the responsibilities of the employees are vivid, in a way that per each task in the project there is a so-called DRI (directly responsible individual) who will be praised or scolded regarding his performance.
Power
Steve’s perfectionist attitude created a clear image of him in the minds of employees. According to an ex-Apple employee, “most colleagues of Jobs described him as ‘brutally honest’ and never willing to settle for anything than the absolute perfect.” In terms of applying business terminology to his methods, a power culture was dominant in the Apple Inc., as Jobs would be the person who finalizes the tasks and makes final decisions. On every Monday, there would be a meeting in which every single project would be reviewed, and the designers would come up with their innovative ideas which would he replied to with extreme honesty, as Jobs would give feedback with phrases such as “’it’s great’, ‘it’s not bad, but change this’, ‘this sucks’, etc.” Moreover after selling NeXT to the Apple and expelling the previous Apple CEO, he installed the NeXT team on the higher positions in Apple, resulting in them having more access to the system.
